Last Charity Event - Red for Red Cross Day on Fri 23rd April

Friday 23rd April (THIS FRIDAY) is RED for RED CROSS DAY. Pupils are allowed into school out of uniform if they are wearing a RED item of clothing or RED fancy dress outfit. (NO football or rugby strips allowed). The funds collected will be split between THE RED CROSS, one of the worlds biggest and most successful support charities, a local charity and school funds used to promote pupils activities of many kinds not just sports.
MAKE FRIDAY A BIG SUCCESS. WEAR RED AND (AS USUAL) DONATE GENEROUSLY.

SFA COACHING LEVEL 2

There is an opportunity for those who have completed the SFA level 1 award to complete the Level 2 course on the 18th and 19th Feb from 10-4pm. The course is free of charge; however, they are looking for a commitment that students who complete the course will then volunteer at local boys/girls football clubs for a minimum of 30 hours. This would then allow you to work towards the level 3 award. If you are interested, please speak to Miss Day ASAP as places are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

FIT FOR GIRLS

Fit For Girls is a national project which is trying to get more girls active in PE and in sport outside school. As a school we are looking to establish an all girls group committee which will meet regularly and discuss reasons why some girls may not enjoy being active and what can we, as a school do to improve the facilities, curriculum, extra curricular activities which we offer. We are really keen to hear what you girls think…! If you would be interested in joining a committee (which will meet approximately once every 8 – 10 weeks) then please give your name to your PE teacher. We are looking for a range of girls ; those who love PE, think PE is okay and those who don’t like PE, those who do extra curricular, and those who don’t, and people who have ideas about what they would like PE to be like in our school. This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard and make a change in PE and Sport. Don’t be shy – your PE teacher will be taking names during class time, break and lunch so pop down when you can to sign up!

PORTY GLEE CLUB

Following on from the success of 'Oliver!' last term, the music department are establishing their very own music and theatre style group, aptly named Porty Glee Club!
Glee Club begins this Monday 1st February after school in the music department where we will begin working on material to perform in the Spring concert in March.

Junior group (S1 - 2) will meet in G08 with Mrs Brown,
Senior group (S3 - 6) will meet in G09 with Mrs Sumerling.

In addition, this year the spring concert will have a 1960's theme. If there are any solo or group acts who are interested in performing something suitable, please see Mrs Sumerling or Mrs Brown in the music department

SUSPENDED TIMETABLE JUNE 2011

Any pupil interested in participating in a 9 Day/8 Night two centre adventure trip to Southern France should collect an information letter from Mrs Inkster/Miss Day (PE Dept) or Mr Roy/Mr McCran (CDT Dept). This fantastic opportunity will involve pupils canoeing down the Ardeche and then spending 3 days in and around the coastal areas of the Mediterranean where an exciting and varied water sports programme will be on offer. This trip is offered to all current S1-S5 pupils and places will be allocated on a first come basis.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

MGA Company Musical Theatre Training

MGA are now offering two full time Edinburgh based courses for 2010. Details of the Foundation and Advanced courses can be found at www.themgacompany.com or by speaking to Mrs Sumerling in the Music Department.

Fierce Performance are holding auditions on the 3rd January for their show “Broadway Bound”. They are looking for performers aged between 13 and 21 years and would prefer some previous experience in the performing arts. For an application form please call: 0131 466 9392 or speak to Mrs Sumerling.

Free Dance Workshop held by James Robinson who has danced for many artists including: The Pussy Cat Dolls, Simply Musicals, Eurovision, Celebrity X-Factor. If you are interested in taking place in this workshop, to be held in Stockbridge on Sunday 20th December, you need to register in advance as there are only 30 places available. Please see Mrs Sumerling for details as to how to do this.

They were voted third best product and came third overall out of many different companies. There are still recipe books on sale; one of these would make an excellent Christmas present. There will be an S1 Christmas Disco on the last day of term 22nd December at 10.30am-12.15pm (until the end of the school day). It will be the best yet! Music, food, dance, fun, prizes, IPods, raffles and a chance to dance with your favourite teacher. It’s the best way possible to end your first term at the best school in bonnie Scotland. We will try and come round and see all of you in S1 in one of your classes this week to do some market research and sell tickets at the bargain price of £3. Most of the profits will go to charity.
